Electro-Acupuncture Assessment (EAV) According to Dr. Reinhold Voll
EAV Testing indirectly measures the “Energetic System” of the body. It does not measure the physiology, the biochemistry or the pathology components of the human body. However, the “Energetic System” is related to these components, from the standpoint of physics, not chemistry.
EAV ‘the Basics’
Back in the late 1940’s, Dr. Reinholt Voll, MD began an investigation of the effects of electricity on the human physiology. In his studies, Dr. Voll used a technique known as Impedance or OHM metering. In simple terms, some materials are very electrically conductive, for example metals like steel and copper– electricity flows very easily through metals and therefore there is no substantial resistance on the electricity flowing through the metal. Other materials are not conductive, for example wood or rubber, and since these materials are not conductive, their resistance to electrical current is very high. An OHM meter measures electrical resistance (impedance), and it is also capable of measuring conductance since the inverse of resistance (1/resistivity approximately), is conductance.
Dr. Voll found that if he tested the electrical conductance on any general area of the human body, there was a fairly high level of electrical resistance. This is a curious point since we know that the body has a large volume of electrically conductive fluids within it. But, the skin is very resistant, by its nature to electrical current. Dr. Voll also found that at certain specific locations on the anatomy, the electrical flow is much more conductive, and these points generally correspond to the Eastern Medical Acupuncture points. Therefore, we can use an impedance or OHM meter to test the acupuncture points.
This method was documented and proven in over a decade of hospital studies in Germany and today EAV is widely used throughout Europe by over 25,000 medical practitioners.
Another discovery was made by chance. It was found that by placing an appropriate remedy in contact with the body, the reading of an abnormal point would go to normal [Voll, 1980]. **
Further, by his findings that homeopathic medicine is able to balance the reading on the meridians, he built a bridge between Chinese medicine and homeopathy [Voll, 1980]. The essence is that a homeopathic remedy, as a source of resonant energy, is able to restore the imbalance of the energy of the meridian. If the remedy has a different vibrational energy, it does not produce any changes in the reading of the Voll machine. This allowed Dr. Voll not only to find what organs were energetically unhealthy, but also what natural remedy would correct the problem, eg. homeopathic, botanical, nutritional, etc.
Quickly assess which natural products and medicines will be biocompatible for each individual person.
Gentle, Effective Assessment
Acupuncture points are the beginnings or ends of the energy meridians so the flow of energy is measured. Meridian point measurements are stored and compared in subsequent scanning sessions.
Each client sees test results straight away, resulting in a more dynamic interaction, and a more complete consultation.
The electrical flow (conductance) gives us an indication of the energetic health status of the meridian that we are testing.
For example, if you are testing the Liver Meridian with an EAV instrument, the meter will give an indication of the Liver Meridian’s energetic status. It does not measure and give a direct acupuncture reading of the body. Energetic is not electrical, but we can use electricity to indirectly measure the energetic system.
The Energetic System is a network of communication pathways. This System is aware of everything that is going on in even the smallest corner of your body. The Energetic System knows the presence of every organism living in your body including all viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites. It also knows the functional condition and health level of every cell in your body. The Energetic System is also aware of every toxin and every other factor that influences your state of health.
What is involved in BioEnergetic Screening?
During the EAV session the patient holds the passive electrode (cathode) in one hand and the acupuncture points are tested by touching the skin with the other probe electrode (anode).
This non invasive electric probe is gently placed on patient’s hands or feet at specific acupuncture organ points and electrical conductivity is measured. These acupuncture points are the beginnings or ends of the energy meridians so the flow of energy is measured. 49 Control Measurement Points are screened using feet and hands of both left and right side.
With this technology we am able to access the bioenergetics of your body. There is no pain felt but slight pressure as the probe is applied. The measurement is painless and the electrical current of microamperes is so minimal that it is harmless to humans. Then EAV is used to screen potential natural remedies to determine which will help restore the body’s balance. This is how an INDIVIDUALISED Treatment and Prevention Protocol is designed.

Remedy Testing — Remedies that balance the point to 50 readings
In his studies, Dr. Voll discovered “Remedy Testing”. He found that different remedies might affect the readings on different Meridians.
For example, if you are testing the Liver Meridian and the practitioner tests several different remedies on the “Test Plate” (a metal plate, usually aluminum, used for remedy testing on an MSA device), some of these remedies may change the conductance readings on the Liver Meridian. If a particular remedy causes the Liver Meridian reading to become more “Balanced” (closer to 50, and less Indicator Drop or flatter), then the practitioner would consider this specific remedy to be “Bio-Compatible”.
Bio compatible means; the remedy produces a favourable or “Positive Response” energetically.
Readings at 50 with no indicator drop (ID) will show a balanced point. Reasonably readings between 40-60 are considered to balanced points. Regardless of who is tested, no matter what their age, weight, sex, or race, a reading of 50 with no change over time (no indicator drop), is an indication of an Energetically healthy or “Balanced” meridian.
Readings above 75 and into 100 suggest inflammation of screened meridian. Those that are in the zones of 85-100 are of higher points of inflammation of that meridian test point. Branching on that point allows for a more detailed bio-energetic assessment. When a reading steadily drops in value from the high point down, this is known as an “Indicator Drop” (ID), and this can display a weakness or disturbance in the meridian.
From a functional standpoint it can be said that the Meridian is “Functionally Impaired”.
When a reading is significantly lower and below 40 then it is believed that this meridian is displaying “low energy” properties. A chronically inflamed organ will eventually stop performing as it loses the fight. It may become hardened, as happens in liver cirrhosis. As organs harden, they lose their hydration, and thus cannot conduct electricity as they once did, therefore producing “low energy” readings.
